Today, I made quiche lorraine for dinner. Jeff didn't like it so much. My silly man is such a picky eater, but it's not so much about the taste as it is the texture. lol. He didn't like my quiche very much because the egg kind of has a gelatin texture and there are chunks of onion and bacon in it. The onion pieces were cooked pretty well, because I don't like uncooked onions at all, but I guess they were still slightly too crisp for him. He liked the flavor (who doesn't like bacon, egg, cheese and onion flavor? Plus it had herbes de Provence, which he loves...) but like the ratatouille I made a month or so ago, the texture got him. I thought the flavor was amazing. I definitely want to make it again... I may just make him suffer through it like I do with pasta salad. >:) Bwahaha!
Pasta salad, by the way, is probably my favorite summer dinner. Or one of them. My mom would always make it during the summer because it was cool and easy. As a kid, I didn't like it so much. She usually made it when we wanted spaghetti or something else. But now, pasta salad just tastes like summer to me. It's so cool and fresh and light. I do omit the broccoli my mom puts in it, though. Hate that nasty stuff. Instead, I add in creamy avocado chunks. This is definitely more of an Italian-inspired dish, and avocados are definitely not Italian, but we're in America... So, hey! If you like it, go for it, right? We're all about mixing cultures and blazing our own trails.
Today I was officially offered the GA position at work! Yay!!! I'm really excited. That means I'll be taking over women's volleyball, which should be fun. A girl from my home ward is on the team, so it will be fun to work with her a little bit. And I'll see all my old ward members when they come to the games. I'll also be in charge of all the PR stuff that doesn't fall under a particular sport. Y Awards and Hall of Fame and things like that. It'll be interesting working with so many people outside of our office. And I'll be able to park in A parking lots. :) Jeff's excited for that.
I decided that we're never living in San Francisco. Just for the record. They make a big deal about weird things.... Like, the option to outlaw circumcision is going on the ballot. What the heck? Parents wouldn't have the choice whether to have it done or not on their sons. They couldn't have it done until their sons are 18 and can choose for themselves. Weird...... Why it's that big of a deal, I have no clue.
I'm having trouble reading for my class and reading for my internship. Sigh... Senioritis is killing me. lol.
Today at work, we watched a YouTube video of a 3-year-old girl who was throwing a tantrum because she loved Justin Bieber. She was bawling. At 3 years old. It was so funny and so sad at the same time. You can watch it here if you want to laugh and feel sorry for her at the same time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTCm8tdHkfI .
So....I hate it when I'm in the middle of writing and I hit a rut. (I didn't hit a rut in this blog post, it's in another project I'm working on.) It makes it so frustrating to work on the project, even if you're really excited about it. Sometimes figuring out what to do in between exciting parts is the worst part of writing. Because you have to have stuff that isn't intensely interesting, otherwise your audience gets wiped out after the first chapter. The parts that aren't as exciting makes the exciting parts even better. But man, are they a pain in the behind to write!
So on that note, I think I'm going to go spend some time with my husband reading our new book. It's the second book in The Kane Chronicles series by Rick Riordan (the guy who wrote the Percy Jackson series). It's really interesting! I highly recommend it...at least if you're into fun, exciting books with relatively juvenile humor that are easy to understand, don't require a load of thinking, and have a uniquely modern twist on ancient Egyptian mythology and history. Me gusta....but if you're not into the Disney-movie level stories, definitely not for you. :)
