I wasn't completely unproductive today for the first time in almost two weeks. First, I went to work for the first time. Not the most comfortable experience, but still... It was nice to be out of the house and not in pain. And doing something besides continuing my week-long marathon of The West Wing. (I'm almost done with the third season.)
My husband and I have been experimenting in the world of puff pastry lately. I've been experimenting in the making, he's been experimenting more in the tasting... But amazing stuff, puff pastry. Amazing. For dinner we had rosemary chicken wrapped in puff pastry with some cheese and marinara sauce. Yummy! Although it would have been a little fancier with something other than cheddar cheese.
With the second sheet of puff pastry in the package, I made cinnamon sugar elephant ears. So delicious. So simple. Spread sugar on the cutting board, spread cinnamon sugar on top, rolling the dough out a little so the sugar gets pressed into the dough, fold sides half way to middle, fold sides all the way to middle, fold in half and cut the log into 1/2 inch slices. Then bake them and voila! So yummy.... The sugar caramelizes and hardens when it cools, creating a crisp cinnamon sugar coating over the flaky, buttery dough. Sigh.... Divine. :)
As much as I said I was tired of The West Wing, it's a great show. Why don't they make clever shows like this anymore? Shows that talk about things that matter and aren't set in an E.R., because really, that makes me queasy. No cheap humor or stupid plot lines. Just realistic people doing things that matter.
